HTML Basics
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the guts of the internet it is the basic building blocks of every single website on the internet from Albania to Mozambique and back any website created anywhere is founded on HTML source code so thus it is critical to know the basics of this code. I will cover briefly and carefully many highlights and important information on HTML so pay close attention.
HTML is created using a tag system the tags surround the actual HTML code an example is the <body> tag where the angled brackets ( < > ) surround the word body and make it function as html code.
Html tags come in pairs, it uses both opening and closing tags, opening tags are simple angle brackets <body> and closing tags are the same but with a slash after the first angle bracket so you have </body> . To have properly functioning HTML code you must have your tags set up correctly.
Below is a list of common HTML tags and what they are used for. An HTML document always starts with a <html> tag and ends with a closing </html> tag this creates an HTML document that the web browser can read and understand. Also the HTML document needs an opening <body> tag to define the body of the html page and then a closing </body> tag as well. Check out the code below to get a good idea of how to set up some basic HTML code.
<html>
<body>
<h1> This is your first heading </h1>
<p> this is your very first paragraph <b> with some bold text right here</b> </p>
<p> and this a brand new paragraph</p>
</body>
</html>
To create an html document you can open up notepad and then navigate to File > Save As then save the file with a .htm or .html extension and set the second drop down box to All Files. So the file would say yourfile.html and the second drop down box would say All Files then save it to wherever you would like and you have your first HTML file.
